Frequently asked questions
Q: Why doesn't SEPA provide levels for
all of its gauging stations?
A: The
stations included in this site will be changed if there is demand,
however we have to limit the total number to 90 at present due to
the limitations of our computer and telemetry systems.
Q: Why doesn't SEPA provide flow data
as well as levels?
A: SEPA may
extend this site to display flows if there is sufficient
demand.
Q: Why can't SEPA
update this site more regularly?
A:
More regular downloads would put an excessive strain on our
computer systems and instrumentation.
Q: Why can't SEPA provide real time
river level information during flood
events?
A: This site can only
support a daily update and is not designed for the frequency of
updates that would be required to monitor a flood event. SEPA uses
this information to feed into our Floodline service together with
rainfall and weather forecasts.
Real time level data alone has limited value for flood warning
beyond the immediate vicinity of the station. We would advise users
to visit the flooding pages for the most up to date information on
flooding in their area. Click on 'flooding' on the menu on the left for more
information.
Q: How can I obtain level or flow data
from SEPA?
A: Contact your local SEPA office.
