The Area Advisory Group has been set up to provide help, support and advice to SEPA and the Environment Agency and have an important role in preparing the River Basin Management Plan.
The Area Advisory Group is supported by co-ordinators and a Chair, provided jointly by the SEPA and the Environment Agency.

Area Advisory Group membership
Identifying the most appropriate people to be members of the Solway Area Advisory Group is vital to its success. We know that much of the work of the Area Advisory Group will be in relation to those water bodies that are:
- “at risk” of failing to meet the environmental standards set out by the WFD;
- important for wildlife and habitats;
- important for businesses and recreation
We have identified members that have significant interests in these areas. In addition, we used the information provided during previous consultations and stakeholder meetings and the Solway Tweed River Basin District Characterisation and Impacts Analyses to inform our selection of potential members.
We have also identified Area Advisory Group members from the public bodies designated as Responsible Authorities by the Scottish Executive and as Co-delivers by the Environment Agency.
These potential members were then asked to identify any stakeholders or individual who should also be included on the Area Advisory Group
We recognise the need to be flexible in our approach to the membership of the Area Advisory Group, which allows us to make best use of local expertise and to co-opt members onto the group to advise on specific issues.
