Water Environment (Controlled Activities)(Scotland) Regulations 2005

Applications for water use activities

Activities not covered by a General Binding Rule need to apply to SEPA for an authorisation. Activities can be authorised by either registration or licence.  Information on the level of authorisation applicable to an activity can be found in The CAR Practical Guide (970k pdf).


Registrations

Always use the latest version of the form when making your application.
Last update May 2008: New Activity Descriptions (v3) for Engineering Activities. (v2 Issued Nov 2007).

Application Fee

The standard application fee is reviewed. Reduced fees may apply if you are applying for multiple associated activities.

Refer to the Charging Scheme guidance for latest fees and to calculate any reduced application fees.

Online Registrations

Click here to apply online for registration of abstractions, discharges (including septic tanks) or engineering works.

Please note, a surcharge of 1.5% for credit card processing will apply. The online application fee is reviewed annually.

Licences

Activities covered by a simple or complex licence must apply using the application forms below.  The same application form is used for both simple and complex licence activities

An application will require the submission of at least two forms.

  1. The first, (Form A) is used to provide general information on the application, such as site details and responsible person.

  2. The second, (Forms B, C, D, E or F) can then be used to provide information on the particular water use activity(ies) taking place at the site.

Please note that application fee payments must be by cheque or BACS
only. Payment by credit/debit card is not currently available.
