Workshops were held over 2 days to determine how we could better align the priorities of river basin management planning with the fisheries management groups from the North West of Scotland. The agenda, papers and presentations are included in the documents below;

22 September 2015 - Forestry, flooding and the water environment

An event was held to discuss the influence of forestry development and management on flooding and water quality in the north Highland area. The event was organised by SEPA with the support of Forestry Commission Scotland and the Highland Council. The event aimed to:

  • Set the national scene for forestry in relation to the Floods Directive and the Water Framework Directive.
  • Describe the implementation of river basin planning and flood risk management and how forestry management can contribute to its local delivery.
  • Discuss the current and future role of forestry in flood risk management and improving and protecting Scotland’s water resource.
  • Clarify the key roles of responsible authorities and the importance of working in partnership to identify opportunities and deliver multiple benefits.
  • Discuss the extent of flooding in the Highland area and opportunities, challenges and benefits in addressing these pressures.
  • Provide a summary of sector regulation and the development of related guidance.
