On 15 May 2015 we launched a public consultation on a new charging scheme for reservoirs which is being introduced through the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act 2011. The consultation ran for 8 weeks and closed on 10 July 2015. In order to alert those who would be directly affected by the charging scheme, SEPA wrote to all 220 managers of existing large raised reservoirs registered under the Reservoirs Act 1975 (i.e. reservoirs greater than 25,000 cubic metres impounded capacity).
At the end of the consultation period, we considered all the comments that we received about our charging proposals. In total, 29 respondents provided their feedback representing around 12% of affected reservoir managers.
We sent a letter to all those who responded and summarised the main conclusions including our planned actions for the charging scheme. We have now published our full consultation analysis and would like to thank all those who responded to the consultation.
The Reservoirs (Scotland) Charging Scheme 2016-2018 is in force from 1 April 2016 and supersedes the previous scheme (Reservoirs (Scotland) Charging Scheme 2015-2018). Associated Charging Scheme Guidance is also available in order to provide further detail, explanation and clarification regarding the scheme where required.
