The Scottish waste sites and capacity tool provides information about the numbers and types of Waste Management Licences (WMLs) and Pollution Prevention Control permits (PPCs) issued by SEPA. The tool presents the data for 2011-2014 in a visual and interactive format, allowing users to filter the data for their own specific requirements, such as waste treatment method or geographic region. If required, the waste site and capacity information can be downloaded into Excel.
This tool provides details about:
- Landfill sites and capacity - includes the numbers and types of landfills in Scotland, the tonnages of waste they landfill in a given year, remaining capacities and, where available, their licensed/permitted annual capacities. There is also an interactive map showing the location of these landfills. The landfill map also allows users to optionally display information about historical closed landfills.
- Waste sites and capacity - includes the numbers and types of licensed/permitted waste management facilities in Scotland, the tonnages of waste they handle in a given year and, where available, their licensed/permitted annual capacities as well as an interactive map showing the location of these sites.
The annual capacity is the tonnage of waste a regulated site is licensed or permitted to handle in a given year.
This information is useful for a variety of purposes ranging from waste management planning and policy decisions to informing businesses about options for managing their waste. SEPA uses the data for reporting under the European Union Waste Statistics Regulations.
