Flooding
SEPA is Scotland's flood warning authority. Under the Environment
Act 1995, we are required to operate formal flood warning schemes
in partnership with local authorities and the police. This includes
Floodline; a 24 hour telephone information service covering all of
Scotland, through the monitoring of river levels, rainfall, tidal
predictions and weather forecasts.
SEPA is also responsible for providing advice to local
authorities on flood risk for planning purposes, and advice on flood prevention. This section
explains how we work with other organisations to manage flood risk
in Scotland, as well as a range of hints and tips on how you can
prepare for flooding.
Flood Risk Workshops
SEPA recently held a number of workshop events with consultants
and organisations involved in Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) work to
support planning applications.
The purpose of these workshops was to
provide a forum for SEPA staff and practitioners specialising in
Flood Risk Assessment related work to discuss current best
practice, requirements for Flood Risk Assessments and SEPA policy
relating to planning and flooding risk.
Following the success of these events, a
further event is planned for this summer, depending on interest
received. This will be effectively a repeat of the earlier events
and is aimed at those who were unable to attend or were not invited
to the initial workshop events.
The workshop will include a number of
presentations covering topics such as FRA reporting requirements,
planning in the context of SPP7 and FRA requirements for
engineering activities regulated under the Controlled Activity
Regulations (CAR).

possible event, please send your contact details to SWFloodRisk@sepa.org.uk
