Page icon Natural Flood Management

Natural Flood Management Areas where implementing natural flood management techniques could be most effective. This information will help to make flood risk management decisions and should not be viewed in isolation. Please refer to the SEPA website for more information on natural flood management....

Page icon Developing our flooding knowledge

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work.

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work. As the strategic flood risk management authority in Scotland we are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge of the sources and impacts of flooding. We have developed a knowledge base of methods, guidance and summaries that may be useful to responsible authorities, academic projects and consultants delivering flood risk management projects, which can be accessed below. National Flo

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work. Floodplain Storage Shows areas where there is the potential for floodplain storage. This is where flood water may be stored and slowed by natural features of the land. This map will be used in the Flood Risk Management Planning process to select the most appropriate action to take to tackle flood risk and will not be used in isolation. Please refer to the SEPA website for more information on natur

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work.

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work. Sediment Management Shows areas where improving sediment management could contribute to reducing flood risk. This map will be used in the Flood Risk Management Planning process to select the most appropriate action to take to tackle flood risk and will not be used in isolation. Please refer to the SEPA website for more information on natural flood management.

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work.

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work. Wave Energy Dissipation Shows areas that display tidal wave dissipation.

Natural Susceptibility to Coastal Erosion Areas likely to be susceptible to coastal erosion based on natural features including the height and geology of the land (relative to sea level), distance to the sea and wave action. This map does not take account of existing flood or coastal erosion protection structures and does not indicate areas that will erode or the timescales over which coastal eros

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work. Estuarine Surge Attenuation Shows estuaries that may be affected by coastal surges caused by tides or winds where flooding occurs further up the estuary. This map will be used in the Flood Risk Management Planning process to select the most appropriate action to take to tackle flood risk and will not be used in isolation. Please refer to the SEPA website for more information on natural flood manag

Page icon Runoff Reduction

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work.

We are continually working to develop and improve our knowledge on flood risk and flooding impacts and to identify new technologies to better support our flooding work. Runoff Reduction Shows area of high runoff to help target runoff reducing activities. Areas of high run off can be more susceptible to faster flooding. This map will be used in the Flood Risk Management Planning process to select the most appropriate action to take to tackle flood risk and will not be used in isolation. Please refer to the SEPA website for more information on natural flood managem

Page icon Waste

Conserving and protecting the world’s natural resources is vital. For Scotland to become a resilient, resource efficient economy, we must cut waste production, keep materials circulating for as long as possible, prevent the harms from waste management and tackle waste crime. SEPA’s waste to resources framework sets out how we work to deliver these goals, in line with our Sector Planning approach a
