Long-term river water quality indicator
SEPA publishes a long-term river water quality indicator, based on a network of sites covering 253 water bodies (rivers or sections of rivers). This indicator is based on a consistent set of five water quality parameters which are sensitive to organic pollution, nutrients and toxic substances, and which provide a measure of species diversity across approximately 10% of all water bodies.

Monitoring
In 2011, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) established an indicator of river water quality based on a network of sites covering 253 water bodies (rivers or sections of rivers), which account for approximately 10% of all water bodies. The indicator is based on a consistent set of five water quality parameters which are sensitive to organic pollution, nutrients and toxic s

Find your National Grid Reference (NGR)
SEPA have developed a web based NGR tool using online maps to help determine a National Grid Reference. By entering your postcode a map of your area will displayed. By clicking on the map a 10 character National Grid Reference will be displayed for your use.

Modelling
Marine aquaculture modelling
Computer modelling is used as a guide to determining licensed discharge quantities of anti-parasitic chemicals and organic waste arising from marine fish-farm operations.
The modelling tools promoted by SEPA provide robust predictions in most cases, requiring relatively little site-specific information. Nevertheless, the quality of the model outputs is dependent upon g

The waste maps in this tool depict waste management facilities in Scotland at a national and local authority level. The maps are located in two tabs:
Landfill map tab – displays the location of all landfill sites in Scotland. The landfill sites displayed on this map are coloured by landfill type (hazardous, inert, non-hazardous) and the operational status is depicted by the shape of the site on t

Velocity
Indicates the speed of flood water and the direction in which it is travelling within Potentially Vulnerable Areas (PVAs).
Velocity direction is available only within the river flood maps. It is sampled at a 150m resolution therefore cannot be used to identify detailed flow pathways. The velocity displayed on the river flood map shows the general speed and direction of flood water over a
River Basin Management Planning
An introduction to our river basin planning work.
An introduction to our river basin planning work.
River basin management planning (RBMP) protects and improves Scotland’s water environment for the benefit of people, wildlife and the economy.
Much of the water environment in Scotland is in good condition. However, there are still significant problems affecting water quality, physical condition, water resources, and the migration of wild fish.
