Long-term river water quality indicator
SEPA publishes a long-term river water quality indicator, based on a network of sites covering 253 water bodies (rivers or sections of rivers). This indicator is based on a consistent set of five water quality parameters which are sensitive to organic pollution, nutrients and toxic substances, and which provide a measure of species diversity across approximately 10% of all water bodies.

Monitoring
In 2011, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) established an indicator of river water quality based on a network of sites covering 253 water bodies (rivers or sections of rivers), which account for approximately 10% of all water bodies. The indicator is based on a consistent set of five water quality parameters which are sensitive to organic pollution, nutrients and toxic s
Air
We have a responsibility to regulate and monitor emissions from certain industrial activities that can cause air pollution. These regulatory activities are a major part of what we do.
In addition to our regulatory role, we:
Through our role as a statutory consultee in the planning and local air quality management systems, we influence the location, design and layout of new infrastructure and build

Our joint vision is for the Stirling City Region to live within one planet limits. The Stirling City Region will act as a beacon to all regions, cities and towns on how to achieve the needs of its people, communities and businesses, consistent with environmental excellence.
This SGA aims to lead with the following outcomes:
Better connecting people and their environment
Making a flourishing city
Position Statement: Elevated buildings in areas of flood risk
What is an elevated building?
A building where structures such as pillars or stilts are used to raise it above the expected flood water level. The ground below the building remains at risk of flooding and allows for the free flow of water.
Context for this position statement
This position statement constitutes part of ‘relevant SEPA advice’ as referred to in criterion a) iv of the National Plannin
Local authority contaminated land support
Local authority requests
Local authorities may require information and water pollution advice from SEPA when considering whether land is statutorily contaminated.

University of Stirling Sustainable Growth Agreement
Our vision is that Scotland will be a global leader in tackling the effects and impacts of climate change and its associated extremes and through partnerships we will find the solutions required to secure a sustainable, prosperous future.
The Sustainable Growth Agreement will demonstrate through practical solutions how to maximise environmental, social and economic opportunities to enable and help
Velocity
Velocity
Indicates the speed of flood water and the direction in which it is travelling within Potentially Vulnerable Areas (PVAs).
Velocity direction is available only within the river flood maps. It is sampled at a 150m resolution therefore cannot be used to identify detailed flow pathways. The velocity displayed on the river flood map shows the general speed and direction of flood water over a
Sea lice regulatory framework implementation
Frequently asked questions
Why is a sea lice framework needed?
Populations of wild Atlantic salmon have been in serious decline in recent decades and are now at crisis point. The pattern of decline is repeated across the salmon’s North Atlantic range and is likely caused, at least in part, by the effect of climate change on the survival of salmon during their time at sea.
To build resilience of Sc

Information on SEPA's role in relation to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Energy storage has an important role to play in the development of a smart, flexible, and decarbonised energy system.
National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4) Policy 11 (Energy) states that:
"development proposals for all forms of renewable, low-carbon and zero emissions technologies will be supported. These include... iii) energy storage, such as battery storage and pumped hydro storage."
