We make decisions which are key to protecting Scotland’s environment.
The environment can only be properly protected and improved if everyone builds environmental considerations into their decision-making.
Many of the decisions we make are wide-ranging and have the potential to affect a range of individuals, communities, businesses and organisations.
As part of our commitment to engage with the people of Scotland and to ensure the best outcome for all involved, we welcome your involvement in our consultation processes.
Responses to these consultations will help us determine future policy, protecting Scotland’s communities, economy and environment.

You are invited to comment on any of our current consultations. Each consultation document gives full details of how to respond and the closing date for responses.
The Public Participation Directive (PPD) exists to provide the public with a way to comment on certain activities, specifically the way in which we determine and issue applications regarding permits under the Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC)regime.
We also list advertised applications made under the Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2011, commonly known as CAR.
We frequently respond to consultations issued by other bodies, such as the Scottish Government.
You can access and read any response to a third party consultation we have made in the last twelve months.
If you would like any further information about the consultation process or require any material in an alternative format, please contact us.
